Stress is not only mental but can also surface in the physical form. Overworked on the job, daily life, an active lifestyle and past/present injuries. How are we dealing with that stress? Are we just ignoring it, allowing it to compound and cause more tension within the body? Do we resort to over the counter or prescribed medication? Self medicating in other ways? What if I told you that simply finding a massage therapist could not only positively influence your quality of life but could also have a boost in your mental health! Now when I say massage therapist I don't just mean ANY massage therapist but someone who specializes in therapeutic work. Someone who understands the body is a puzzle and that the muscle makeup of the body works as one piece. It's one thing to have someone use some oil and give a simple Swedish massage. It's another thing to find someone who understands the anatomy of the body and can help educate you on what's going on, be able to explain it in a way you will understand and steps to take to help get the body back to a place of homeostasis. Massage is just one part of self-care. We must also be doing our part on our own to ensure the work that is being done isn't going to waste and that we are an ACTIVE participant in getting the body back to where it should be.

The more we pay attention to what the body is telling us, the better equipped we are to be proactive in finding solutions to help us feel better, look better and move better. Massage is a dance with two parties and we must work together to make sure the dance goes as smoothly as possible! When the body is feeling good we can have a better quality of life. We will be able to work more efficiently in whatever it is we do on a daily basis and in the hobbies we love that we may be putting on hold. We are only given one body so why would we not do all we can to ensure that it is functioning the way it is supposed to and keep us moving comfortably? Ignoring tension in one area of the body will in turn cause other muscles to have to overcompensate and work harder. This will result in muscles being overworked, causing more pain and further throwing the body out of balance.

All massage therapists are not created equally. We do not all have the same skill set nor do we all specialize in therapeutic work. You wouldn't take your car to someone who doesn't understand mechanical work. You don't go to a doctor that does not specialize in the care that you need so why trust your muscles with a therapist that doesn't fully understand the way the body works or have the skills necessary to get the job done?

At Royal Touch Therapy, I specialize in therapeutic massage! Repetitive motion at work? Old injuries or built up scar tissue? Workout warrior holding a lot of tension? Range of motion problems for any number of reasons? Sit at a desk that's causing lower back/hip and shoulder problems? Athlete needing maintenance throughout the season or during off time? Tension headaches and neck pain? These are a few of the things that I can help you recover from! Don't believe someone when they tell you that you can be fixed and healed in one session. That is not the truth of the matter! Massage can be incredibly helpful but as with anything, we need to be consistent in the work! Self-care is not a one time pit stop but a continual occurrence to make sure we are keeping our minds and body functioning at the level we are used to and massage needs to be a part of that self care. It's like taking your car for an oil change. You wouldn't only take your car in for an oil change once in its lifetime. You would need that service done continuously throughout the lifetime of that vehicle. Car maintenance is mandatory if we want to prolong the life of our vehicles and our body is no different! Invest in your body and INVEST IN YOURSELF!
