Vice President of Communications

Many of us who work for the Alzheimer's Association have a personal reason for fighting Alzheimer’s disease and related dementia. Whatever our connection to the cause, our team is committed to accomplishing our vision of a world without Alzheimer's and all dementia - and our volunteers are a vital part of making that happen.

County Level Data - Updated January 2024

Here in South Carolina, we are fortunate to have the nation’s most comprehensive statewide registry of residents diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias.

In partnership with the SC Alzheimer's Disease Registry, the Alzheimer's Association SC Chapter has produced county fact sheets to shed light on the impact of dementia on our local communities.

The new 2024 fact sheets below reflect data from 2021, the most current year that complete data is available through the Registry.

At that time, 122,699 South Carolinians were living with a diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease or related dementias (ADRD). Statewide, African Americans were an average of 35% more likely to have ADRD than their non-Hispanic white counterparts.

Each county fact sheet offers a breakdown of cases by age, race, place of residence and county heat map, as well as growth in cases since the year 2000.
