My name is Shannon Kennedy and I am a board certified Internal Medicine Doctor. Over the past 12 years, my primary care practice, Remedy Wellness, has blossomed into a holistic healing center. My partners are two Naturopathic Doctors, a Nurse Practitioner, a Reiki Healer, a Registered Nurse administering nutritional IV therapies, an Acupuncturist, a Massage Therapist, a Reflexologist, and most recently a Licensed Professional Counselor certified in Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP). Today, I want to share with you how KAP has woven its way into my holistic primary care practice, and how it might be an option to help more people.
‍
Most diseases arise from poor nutrition (otherwise known as a standard American diet), hormone imbalances (premenstrual, perimenopausal and menopausal disorders), and stress. Over the years we have built a coalition of healers to address all of these conditions. Most recently, we have incorporated a safe and effective way of improving many mental health disorders that contribute to physical disease. Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) has offered a tremendous benefit to many of the people I see with chronic health conditions that do not consider themselves to have serious mental health disorders. They may struggle with a low level of depression, situational anxiety that has limited their growth either socially or at work, or recurrent patterns of disordered relationships from past trauma that has not allowed them to find safe space. Sometimes lifestyle recommendations or conventional medications work. When they do not, I have found KAP to offer a tremendous benefit to many of my patients. In addition, patient’s with more serious mental health disorders such as major depression, PTSD, chronic pain, addiction, developmental trauma, complex grief, and anxiety dealing with new medical diagnoses or end of life issues, have benefited from KAP.

KAP uses the mind-expanding effects of medicine in combination with various forms of psychotherapy to achieve lasting mental health change. Ketamine historically has been used at higher doses as an anesthetic medicine. At sub-anesthesia doses, ketamine can help disrupt ingrained patterns of thinking, stabilize behavior change, and catalyze transformational healing. It is the combination of a carefully selected dose of ketamine, the space held by the therapist during the medicine journey and the therapeutic integration after the journey that can lead to a powerful, positive and sustained mental health shift.  At Remedy Wellness, we take a holistic approach to mental health care. We address the complexity of each unique individual, empowering them to participate in healing themselves with the guidance and support of a skilled trauma-informed therapist and integrative Internal Medicine physician.
‍
There are many ketamine clinics popping up around town, which has inspired us to publish this article. We want to differentiate KAP from other forms of ketamine therapy that may not offer safe and sustainable benefits. At Remedy Wellness, we are offering a holistic environment to allow for optimal therapeutic benefit from Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy. We encourage people who are struggling with their physical and mental health to reach out and learn if KAP might be the next right step for them to take! Please contact us or other providers certified in KAP, rather than just ketamine administration, for further information. Thank you for taking this time to learn about KAP!
